Fr. Dogli Memorial Trade School, New Ayoma, Ghana Minimize

One of our main focuses in Ghana is to give children a better future by offering a higher standard of education and preparing them for the difficult world they will enter as adults.

The Fr. Dogli Memorial Trade School (FGMTS) trains productive specialists in much needed fields such as farming, construction, carpentry, Accounting, office skills and computers.

In 2003, the school entered the Ghana public education system and became part of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI). It has trained many young men and women who are now employed by various organizations and government agencies.

We have started a scholarship fund, and currently have 13 students that are sponsored in this program. Fr. Cletus chose these children based upon their family's inability to pay the tuition, and the learning ability of the children themselves. The cost of their tuition, including living and eating on campus, is only approximately $25 per month.

We also have a tutoring program at the school. This program, under the direction of Fr. Cletus Forson, helps children pass the government exams needed to get to the next level of education, such as high school. We currently have over 90 students in this program, under the tutelage of 6 teachers we've hired.

Since this program's inception in 2009 we have had a 100% success rate for the students who participate. This is especially encouraging since the national average of passing is only about 43%.

The students of FDMTS receive more than knowledge. They are taught hands-on skills, like building the desks in the background of this picture, built for the school. All materials are paid for by IHM. Reverend Cosme Fernandez, visiting from the Bronx, New York, came to see!
