The Village of Atikpui in Ghana
The Villagers of Atikpui in Ghana, Africa, previously got their water from the dirty stream below. There are over 3,000 villagers that depended on this stream, and many of them suffered illnesses from drinking, washing and cooking with the water.
IHM is proud to announce that the students and CCD program of St. Margaret School in Middle Village, New York, the students of St. Adalbert's School in Elmhurst, New York, and many private donors, raised funds for a bore hole in this village.
We have successfully drilled a bore hole and have mechanized it. It now delivers clean drinking water to Atikpui and the surrounding villages. We installed 5 water stations, at the school and church areas and on both sides of the village for easy access. Water tanks will hold 20,000 gallons of water and deliver over 40,000 gallons per day to the residents of all the villages in the area.
We are grateful to all of our donors, who made this possible. Their names are engraved on plaques that were affixed to the main pumping and water station, and on the hearts of all who fetch water there each day.
Thank you, Fr. Francis Perry Azah, for all of your great help and direction on this project.
